Arcadia, California, is a beautiful community of residential areas located in the San Gabriel Valley. It is close to Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Mountains, and is known for its friendly atmosphere and safe neighborhoods. The city also has numerous cultural attractions. In addition to its many parks and shopping centers, Arcadia offers a variety of dining options and other recreational opportunities.
Originally a small, undeveloped town, the city of Arcadia grew significantly in the early twentieth century. With the growth came a number of civic improvements, including paved streets, street signs, and public parks. As the city developed, a new Arcadia City Hall was built on West Huntington Drive. During this time, the Chamber of Commerce was founded. This organization represented the community in the Rose Parade.
In the 1930s, the community of Arcadia began its transformation into a metropolitan area. Several improvements were made, including a bridge and three new schools. New businesses were developed and residential homes sprang up. These developments spurred a population boom. By the end of the 1940s, the city had expanded to 15,524 residents. One of the most popular attractions in Arcadia is the Santa Anita Park racetrack. The track is considered to be the best winter horse racing facility in the nation. At its height, the track hosted more than 25,000 races per year, earning it a reputation as one of the world’s premiere thoroughbred racing venues. Since the 1960s, the track has been owned and operated by the county.
Another popular site is the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden. This 127-acre historical site features several attractions. Arcadia’s history is well-documented at the Arcadia Historical Museum. The museum contains a variety of artifacts and photographs of bygone landmarks, and also includes period furnishings. Some of the items in the museum are more than four thousand years old.
Other sites of interest are the Arcadia News Journal building, which is a historical building located on Route 66. It was constructed in 1932 in the Art Deco style.
Along with the Santa Anita Racetrack and the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden, the area of Arcadia is home to other cultural attractions. For example, the Gilb Museum of Arcadia Heritage features a gallery of permanent and temporary exhibits highlighting the rich history of the area. Located in the Sierra Pelona Mountains, the museum features art and artifacts related to the history of the region.
Arcadia is also home to many festivals and events, including the Arcadia Peach Blossom Festival. The festival was created by the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce. The festival is tied to the dedication of the new Civic Center, the Memorial Grove, and the Arcadia Peach Blossom Queen Contest.
