Arcadia was founded in the mid-nineteenth century. Initially, it consisted of undeveloped land. A local ranch owner, Elias J. Baldwin, was one of the founding pioneers of the California business community. Baldwin owned a horse racing track in Rancho Santa Anita, and he was nicknamed “Lucky.” He sold a piece of his property in 1903 to be used as a homestead.
