During the early 1900s, Arcadia was a quaint, small, and affluent community with paved streets and a few homes and businesses. In the 1930s, the city began to grow, with a construction boom that included bridges, a new public library, and home communities. By the 1970s, Arcadia became the first city in the United States to implement a 911 emergency number.
As the economy improved in the 1980s and 1990s, Arcadia was able to build many additional facilities. New schools were built, including a high school, a middle school, and a junior high. Despite the economy’s downturn in the mid-1990s, the city still maintained a good balance of quality economic development.
