Periodontal (gum) Disease
While seldom painful and frequently free of any obvious signs or symptoms, periodontal disease can progress undetected to the point where supporting bone is destroyed. 80% to 90% of teenagers have some form of gingivitis (inflamed gums) and up to 75% of adults have some form of irreversible periodontal disease that can lead to the loss of teeth. Recently, gum disease was discovered to be linked to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, high cholesterol and possibly more systemic diseases. Not only are we equipped with the top-of-the-line ultrasonic scaler to non-surgically treat most gum disease, we also use the lastest methods to treat this disease. Laser therapy, along with local and systemic antibiotics, has been shown to enhance the final outcome of the treatment. DNA saliva tests are also performed to target the speciifc the pathogens.
An ultrasonic scaler allows us to irrigate under the gums with warm soothing anti-microbial agents, and remove the infectious biofilm. With a frequency at 25-45,000 Hz cycles per second, we can treat most periodontal disease non-surgically with maximum comfort and efficiency.
Laser Gum Therapy: The use of laser in the treatment of gum disease is becoming the standard of care. The laser has been proven in many studies to decontaminate the gums, promote cell groups and increase blood circulation. We are excited that we are able to provide this added benefit for treatment of your periodontal health. We use a diode laser, a soft tissue laser, for treatment of gum disease and other soft tissue therapies.
